About Laura Strathmann

Judge Laura Strathmann, a District Court Judge in El Paso, Texas, has built an esteemed career centered on family law cases, assisting families in finding resolutions and safeguarding the well-being of children within the legal system. With an unwavering commitment to children’s rights and an active presence in her community, she has become a passionate advocate for justice.

Having spent the majority of her life in El Paso, Judge Strathmann’s roots run deep within the community. She pursued her undergraduate education at the University of Texas in El Paso, majoring in psychology and graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1990. Eager to expand her knowledge, she then obtained a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from St. Mary’s University in 1993. Determined to make a difference in the legal field, she subsequently attended Texas Wesleyan University School of Law, earning her Doctorate of Law in 1998.

Following the completion of her academic journey, Laura Strathmann ventured into the corporate world, working as a Product and Contract Manager for GTE. This experience equipped her with valuable skills in team collaboration and management. In 2001, she transitioned to the legal profession, becoming an attorney, setting the stage for her ongoing dedication to serving her community as a Judge in the 388th District Court. Judge Strathmann focuses primarily on family law cases, recognizing the profound impact she can have on people’s lives in these matters.

During her leisure time, Judge Strathmann ardently gives back to her community through her work as a volunteer. Judge Strathmann serves on the Boards for the Boy Scouts of America Yucca Council, the Paso Del Norte Center of Hope, the League of Women Voters and is an active member/volunteer for the Lady Shriners of North America, the Rotary Club and youth sports organizations. She believes that being an involved member of her community and an engaged citizen helps her make the best decisions during her day job, and helps her understand what her friends and neighbors need most. She is committed to improving Texas through her career and community activism, and hopes she will be able to continue to serve as a judge for many years to come.

By actively participating in community activities and engaging with her neighbors, she gains valuable insights that inform her decision-making as a judge. This community-oriented approach allows her to better understand the needs and concerns of those she serves. With an unwavering commitment to improving Texas through her career and community activism, she aspires to continue her service as a judge for many years to come.
